From our Carbon Management Plan to our Sustainability Food Charter, we have plans and policies in place to help reduce the University’s environmental impact in wide variety of ways.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSee our plans and policies\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n With over 5,000 students and 1,000 members of staff, the University’s activities can have a large impact on our local and global environment.<\/p>\n We work to improve awareness of environmental issues within our community and implement strategies to reduce our impact.<\/p>\n Governance on sustainability is provided by the Sustainability, Environment and Energy Management advisory group (SEEM).<\/p>\n This group is chaired by the university’s lead representative on sustainability, the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.<\/p>\n Members of the group comprise personnel from different areas of the university including Estate Management, Finance, HR, academic staff, UCU Environment Representative, Students’ Union President and SU Sustainability Officer.<\/p>\n This group oversees and tracks the progress to targets in key sustainability documents including the Sustainability Strategy, Carbon Management Plan, Waste Management Plan, Biodiversity Action Plan and Travel plan.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n Learn more about how to get involved with our programmes and initiatives, from our sustainability reward scheme to helping to make our campuses hedgehog friendly.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet involved\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n The University has saved more than 1,275 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide since 2007, despite a 63% increase in the size of the estate.<\/p>\n Charges introduced for disposable cups in the restaurants on both campuses.<\/p>\n We have encouraged wildlife development by planting 420 saplings on campus.<\/p>\n Low-carbon impact buses with advanced Euro6 engines used on campus help cut pollution between stops and improve air quality.<\/p>\n Learn more about our upcoming sustainability events, as well as see the results of our past successes to help reduce our impact on the local and global environment.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSee our upcoming events\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\n Email: <\/strong>k.cathie@chi.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n\n\t\tOur approach\n\t<\/h2>\n
