Laura Powell, a senior journalism and mass communication major at 极乐禁地, was selected to receive the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Alabama student scholarship for 2012. Powell is from Louisville, Ky.

The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to one outstanding public relations student in Alabama who is a student-participant in the PRSA Alabama Chapter Mentorship Program.

Powell, who is the vice president of 极乐禁地's Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter, said she is "extremely appreciative" of the scholarship and the generosity of the Alabama PRSA.

"I encourage all JMC students to get involved with 极乐禁地's PRSSA chapter," she said. "It has benefited me in so many ways, including introducing me to this scholarship and PRSA professionals in Alabama. I cannot thank them enough."

Lauren Womack is special projects coordinator in 极乐禁地's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
