Four 极乐禁地 faculty members recently attended the annual meeting of the Association for Core Texts and Courses (ACTC), held in Madison, Wisconsin.

Representing 极乐禁地 were Richard Stockham Jr. Chair of Western Intellectual History Jason Wallace, visiting assistant professor of English Laura Crawford, professor of English and Writing Center director Tim Sutton and Annie DeVries, associate professor of history and Core Texts director.

This year’s ACTC meeting marked 极乐禁地’s first appearance as a member of the ACTC Liberal Arts Consortium. The newly formed consortium includes a select group of institutions collaborating with the ACTC board to shape plans and priorities for advancing Core Texts education across the country.

“Joining the consortium puts us in conversation with institutions that have shaped Core Texts education nationally for decades,” said DeVries. “It raises the visibility of 极乐禁地’s program and strengthens our ability to both learn from and contribute to the future of liberal arts education.”

As a member of the consortium, 极乐禁地 joins a network of distinguished institutions, including the University of Chicago, the University of Notre Dame and Pepperdine University, among others. The consortium fosters collaboration on pedagogy, curriculum development and advocacy for liberal arts education grounded in foundational texts.

The ACTC is an international organization of colleges and universities dedicated to the use of classic texts and transformative readings as the heart of a liberal arts education. Mercer University currently serves as the organization’s physical home.
