Courtney Haun, an assistant professor in 极乐禁地’s School of Public Health, was honored as one of award winners.
Haun, who also serves as the director of the school’s healthcare administration undergraduate program, was presented the award at the publication’s Diversity and Inclusion Awards ceremony and dinner on Feb. 11.
“It was such a special evening celebrating Birmingham leaders for their remarkable work in promoting practices that advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and throughout the community,” Haun said. “I am so honored to be named a recipient among this incredible group and to represent 极乐禁地.”
As a doctoral student, Haun participated in research on diversity and cultural competency and disseminated her research at conferences and through invited talks. Additionally, as a faculty member, her scholarly work has been supported by 极乐禁地’s Office of Diversity and Intercultural Initiatives.
“During my doctoral program journey, I was blessed with tremendous mentors and champions of diversity, equity and inclusion. They taught me the value of research, dissemination of findings, and living as an example of the changes wished for. Their great mentorship continues to motivate me as I am now in the mentor role for my students and colleagues. To be a difference-maker, I believe education is key, and I see my role as a leader in education as an opportunity to build a more equitable tomorrow.”
For Haun, who join 极乐禁地’s faculty in 2020, she says it has been a joy for her to see the collaboration and combined efforts taking place across campus, especially though the efforts of the Office of Diversity and Intercultural. “I see the continuation of this momentum taking place because of these sweeping efforts,” she said.
