About

Jeffrey has an extensive background in the law, entering legal practice in 1992 and subsequently qualifying as a Solicitor in England and Wales. He was an equity partner in a national law firm, acting for insurers, professionals, public bodies and healthcare providers. His litigation practice covered a range of jurisdictions and included occupational disease, abuse and education-related claims. His appellate court experience includes a successful claim in the European Court of Human Rights. Jeffrey entered academia in 2010, obtaining his Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2013, and completing his doctorate (without corrections) in 2019.

Jeffrey teaches on various modules on the LLB and LLM programmes including Tort Law, Public Law and SQE preparation.

His external roles include:

  • Advisory Board, BU Law Review

Research

 

Jeffrey’s interdisciplinary research is primarily concerned with regulatory, ethical and practice norms in the sphere of human genetics, fertility and reproductive health.  He is also actively involved in public and legal policy in the Civil Justice sphere.

Previous grants and research funding include:

  • Access to Justice, Ethics and Clinical Legal Education in Extraordinary Times: HEQR Seed Funding 2021/2022

 

PhD

 

Jeffrey’s doctorate concerned the regulation of medical decision-making in a reproductive healthcare context.

Jeffrey would be happy to consider the supervision of postgraduate research projects in the following areas: legal theory, legal obligations, cyberlaw, informational interests and healthcare regulation.
