About

I started out in clinical nursing practice in a range of posts specialising in Intensive and Coronary Care nursing. Since then, I have had an extensive career in nursing education with posts across both pre and post registration nursing programmes. I have had particular focus on end-of-life care but have also taught on modules focusing on research and evidence-based practice. One of my key interests in educational practice is to help students grow and develop, both academically and practically, to achieve their best potential.

Since starting my nurse training in 1978 when the numbers of men training as general nurses were very few, I have had a particular interest in the historical contribution that men have made to general nursing in the context of it being a well-recognised female- dominated profession. I lead on a Special Interest Group on the history of nursing in the local area which anyone with an interest in nursing history can attend. We are developing an artefact collection to reflect nursing and nurse education in the Chichester area. The central piece of this collection is a handwritten letter from Florence Nightingale to Bishop Otter College, which preceded the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏÂÛ̳, giving her full support to a campaign led by the Suffragettes and activist Louisa Hubbard to create a female teacher-training college on the south coast of England.
