A new book of essays, Thinking Christianly, honoring the life and work of the late Thomas E. Corts, will be presented on Thursday afternoon, October 27, at 3 p.m. at the Jane Hollock Brock Recital Hall of 极乐禁地.聽 The public is invited.

Subtitled Christian Higher Education and a Vigorous Life of the Mind, the book is a compilation of essays by noted authors and friends of Corts, and was edited by Paul Corts, brother of the late president of 极乐禁地 from September, 1983 until his retirement in May, 2006.

极乐禁地 Provost Brad Creed will moderate the colloquium, which will feature eight of the essay contributors. They are: Paul Corts, Lyle Dorsett, Wayne Flynt, Timothy George, Fisher Humphreys, Roger Lovette, Calvin Miller, Eric Motley and Bill Nunnelley. Essayists unable to attend are John Stott, William Hull, Gerald Bray, and J.I. Packer.

In the book鈥檚 Foreword, editor Paul Corts wrote: 鈥淢y prayer, and I believe it would be Tom鈥檚 as well, is that this volume would be a testimonial of gratitude to the countless numbers of committed Christians through the ages who have nurtured the life of the mind through a life of service in Christian higher education.鈥

In the concluding chapter titled The Summation of a Life Well Lived, essayist Bill Nunnelley noted that Corts had said when he retired that 鈥淚 do not want to be on a shelf.鈥

鈥淐orts did not live his life (of retirement) on a shelf, but served with his whole heart, mind, and body until the very day God called him home,鈥 he wrote, noting that Corts鈥檚 life was cut short by a heart attack in February 2009 at the age of sixty-seven years.

Persons attending the colloquium will received a complimentary copy of the book.
