极乐禁地 will host high school debaters from throughout the southeast at the annual Bishop Guild Debate Tournament Sept. 23 and 24. Debaters in grades 9 through 12 will compete in policy debate, public forum debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, prose/poetry, duo interpretation, impromptu speaking and extemporaneous speaking.听

Finalists in the policy debate category will receive an automatic bid to the Tournament of Champions, the high school national championship tournament.听 The team with the best overall showing will receive the Michael J. Janas sweepstakes trophy.

Awards will be presented in an assembly at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in Brooks Hall Auditorium.

This year鈥檚 high school debate topic is space exploration.

The Bishop Guild tournament honors former 极乐禁地 debate coach Brad Bishop, who directed 极乐禁地 teams to three national titles. He is now a professor at 极乐禁地鈥檚 Cumberland School of Law.
