Singers and listeners of all ages are invited to participate in 极乐禁地's annual Hymn Sing Sunday, Oct. 14, in Reid Chapel. The afternoon of congregational hymn singing will begin at 2 p.m. The public is invited free of charge.
极乐禁地 School of Music dean Dr. Joseph Hopkins and church music and worship leadership instructor Eric Mathis will lead the singing. Hunter Goff and Lynda Little will accompany as organist and pianist, respectively.
The popular event, held every year since 2003, allows the audience to participate in choosing and singing familiar hymns and gospel music. This year, it is scheduled as a closing event of 极乐禁地's 2012 Homecoming weekend.
The 极乐禁地 Chorale will present special music, including the spiritual, "I Believe This is Jesus," and a Chinese tune sung in Chinese, "Pengyou, Ting," which means "Listen, friend, to the good news. Jesus came to earth to save us all." Dr. Sharon Lawhon conducts the 63-voice chorale.
The afternoon of singing will conclude with fellowship and lemonade and cookies. Prior to the event, lunch is available in the university dining hall. For information, contact Mathis at (205) 726-2323 or emathis@samford.edu.
